🌸 Early Literacy Program · Ages 3.5+

Help your child
bloom into
a confident reader!

Blooming Kids Phonics is a fun, play-based literacy program that gives children aged 3.5 and above the tools to read, write, and love language β€” one sound at a time.

What is phonics? πŸ”€

Phonics is a method of teaching children to read and write by connecting individual sounds (called phonemes) to the letters and letter combinations that represent those sounds (called graphemes).

Rather than memorising whole words, phonics teaches children to decode language from the ground up β€” giving them tools they can apply to any word they encounter, even ones they've never seen before.

It is recognised globally as one of the most effective approaches to early reading instruction, endorsed by researchers, educators, and literacy organisations worldwide.

Phonemic awareness

Recognising that words are made of individual sounds β€” before even seeing letters.

Letter-sound mapping

Learning which letters and combinations represent which sounds (e.g. "sh", "ch", "ee").

Blending

Pushing sounds together smoothly to decode and read complete words.

Segmenting

Breaking words into their individual sounds to spell and write them.

β€œSystematic phonics instruction produces significant benefits for children learning to read.”

Why families choose us πŸ’›

Play-based, not pressure-based

Our lessons are designed around joy. Children learn best when they feel safe and excited β€” so every class uses games, songs, puppets, and storytelling to make phonics feel like the best part of their day, not a chore.

Focused on real progress

We track every child's progress and share detailed fortnightly reports so parents always know exactly where their child is growing. Clear milestones, celebrated together β€” every small breakthrough counts.

The science behind phonics πŸ”¬

Reading doesn't come naturally to the human brain β€” it has to be explicitly taught. Phonics gives children a systematic, research-backed code to crack the puzzle of written language.

44 sounds, 26 letters

English has around 44 phonemes (sounds) but only 26 letters, represented by over 140 different letter combinations. Phonics teaches children these systematically.

The 'reading wars' are settling

Major reviews β€” including the UK's Rose Review (2006) and Australia's National Inquiry into the Teaching of Literacy (2005) β€” concluded that systematic synthetic phonics should be the prime approach to teaching reading.

Early foundations matter

Children who receive structured, systematic phonics instruction in their early years are more likely to develop into fluent, confident readers.

Phonics reduces 'guessing'

Without phonics, children often rely on memorising word shapes or guessing from pictures. Phonics gives them genuine decoding skills that scale to any word.

Links to writing too

Phonics doesn't just help reading β€” it directly supports spelling and writing as children learn to segment words into sounds and map them back to letters.

A lifelong advantage

Strong early literacy is one of the most powerful predictors of academic success across all subjects, not just English. Reading fluency underpins everything.

Questions? We've got answers πŸ’¬

We welcome children from 3.5 years old. Our Little Bloomers level is specifically designed for this age group with shorter, highly interactive sessions.

Not at all! Our Little Bloomers program starts from scratch. We introduce each letter and its sound in a carefully sequenced order.

We keep classes intentionally small β€” a maximum of 6 children per session β€” so every child receives personalised attention and the teacher can respond to each child's pace.

Session lengths range from 20 minutes (Level 1) to 35 minutes (Level 3), depending on the child's age and level. We find shorter, high-energy sessions more effective for young children.

We offer both options. In-person classes are available at our learning centre, and online sessions are conducted via an interactive virtual classroom platform. Both use the same curriculum and certified educators.

You'll receive a fortnightly progress report covering sounds mastered, areas to practise at home, and next milestones. We also hold brief parent check-ins every 8 weeks.

Phonics complements school learning beautifully. Many of our students are already in Reception or Year 1 β€” our program strengthens and accelerates what they're learning in class.

Absolutely β€” we encourage it! Contact us to book a free trial session and see for yourself how much fun phonics can be.
